8. The O Visa Category

This visa is for "prominent. aliens in the sciences, arts, education, business or athletics". This requires the alien to show extraordinary ability demonstrated by sustained national or international acclaim. For aliens in the entertainment area, an alien who has demonstrated extraordinary achievement will qualify under this category. Accompanying aliens may also be granted visas at the same time if they assist the principal aliens for a specific event(s) and are an integral part of the services to be performed by the principal alien. The accompanying alien must also possess critical skills and experience that are essential for a successful event. Also consultation with an appropriate union or management organization is required. In addition, the alien must show that the issuance of the visa will benefit the United States.
