16. Other American Embassies

In some cases it may be desirable to apply for a visa at an American embassy outside of Japan. It is possible under certain circumstances to obtain original and renewal visas at the American Embassies or Consulates in Mexico and Canada. The current procedure is to make an appointment only at a special Department of State website.  Most American Consulates have specific requirements that describe the procedures for third country nationals (including Japanese) to apply for a visa. Many American Consulates do not accept third country nationals.  These requirements are usually stated on their websites.
